Inspiration
I wanted to create a filter for people who might be camera shy or not comfortable showing their body in front of the camera but still wanted to perform or show movement in an interesting or unusual way. I wanted to create an effect that would add just enough distortion without explicitly showing the body, or create opportunities for interesting distortion to happen with movement that would inspire a creative, funny or shareable moment.
What it does
The filter wiggles your body movement.
How I built it
I built the filter using Spark AR and the patch editor, specifically by using render pass and delay frames with sdf rectangles.
Challenges I ran into
The challenge was to add enough rectangles for interesting delay and distortion to occur while not adding too many frames that would cause the filter to crash. Also, it was my first time experimenting with render pass, so there's always a fun challenge in learning how to use and combine patches.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I love how this filter turned out. It's simple but opens up a new style of creative performance that is funny and unusual.
What I learned
I learned how to use render pass, and how to be more organized in the patch editor. I learned how to group patches, add comments, and create patch asset groups to more easily make edits without having to manually edit values.
What's next for Wiggler
Wiggler works so well with music and performance, so I'd love to collaborate with dancers and musicians to create wiggly content.
