Project Name: Why CS at UIC
Inspiration
We were inspired by our own experiences at UIC and wanted to showcase why we think studying CS at UIC is a great choice.
What it does
The website has tabs where you can read about reasons to choose CS at UIC, tips we wish we had as freshmen, and an interactive Unity game we built so students can explore and play in a virtual environment. You can also check out some of the classes offered and read reviews, as well as learn more about our team and story in the About Us section.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React and Node, using a JSON file to store all the class details. The interactive game was created in Unity.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges included learning Unity from scratch and spending more time than expected on the game. Resolving merge conflicts while collaborating was also tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of what we were able to create in a short amount of time and that our project can be useful for future students deciding to study CS at UIC.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned valuable skills like deploying a website and building an interactive game in Unity.
What's next for Why CS at UIC
Next, we want to get real feedback from UIC students and update the website based on that input. We also plan to add more features to the Unity game.
