Inspiration

I am always inspired by children. I’ve been teaching little children for 20 years. I care deeply about their emotional health. Right now this pandemic has affected their lives tremendously and it makes me sad thinking about what they’re going through. I wish I could make their lives better and take away their fears. It is my hope that this book will help them understand what’s happening in the world around them.

What it does

This story will allow children to see themselves and experience questions they might ask or want to ask about this pandemic. Hopefully they will understand that it’s okay to be worried and wonder about life as they knew it.

How I built it

I wrote one book and wasn’t quite satisfied with it, so I decided to think a little harder. I thought about my students and my young relatives and how many questions they are probably asking right now. Then I wanted to add a little humor with the line, why corona, why corona. I hope kids will have a laugh while reading and seeing children that are similar to them.

Challenges I ran into

It was a challenge to find the facts to connect with the words. I didn’t want the words to be too big for them to comprehend and enjoy the book. Time was also a challenge. I found out about the competition 4 days ago. So I didn’t have a lot of time to do everything I wanted to do.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud to have completed this book along with my God-daughter and best friends. I have an amazing team.

What I learned

I learned more about the pandemic and I learned to get a good story you have to keep working at it until it feels right.

What's next for Why Corona??

I plan to write more books like this one as I know children have questions and children need to be heard. We as adults must answer their precious questions. I plan to publish this book and more like it to help children cope with this pandemic.
