Inspiration

I’m a workshop controller and the thing that keeps me up at night is making sure that my workers are telling me what I can do to help them with their jobs. Communications with a diverse workforce is a struggle sometimes and I thought that this would be a barrier to people with English as a second language, in Australia at least

What it does

The idea was to build a conversational AI interface that could translate the speech of a user into Tavus and then have the Tavus avatar respond in near real time

How we built it

Using bolt and prompting AI when it came to AWS challenges.

Challenges we ran into

I still couldn’t get bolt to connect to Tavus, despite working on it until 2:15 am (I had to work that same morning at 5:15 🥱

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud of how much I could build in so short a period as a solo founder, and I’ll definitely be working hard to make it functional because this was never about the hackathon, but about how my colleagues deserve to have the same rights and ability to report safety issues.

What we learned

I’ve learned so much about AWS infrastructure and what building an app actually entails, it’s such hard work, especially when I’m juggling family and work in amongst all of this, I’ve been working 2 jobs and looking after my family for the past month and I’m looking forward to a little bit of a break 😂

What's next for WHS CONVERSATION APP

I’ve got to get the avatar working, but when I do I’m going to be asking at work for help to make sure that the translation works flawlessly, that’s the biggest step.
