💡 Inspiration

Many make use of Wix to create free and professional looking websites. Our Team wanted to demonstrate that Wix can also be used to create fun and entertaining website with silly, goofy mini games to entertain children. With colourful visuals, fun number games and positive thinking activities, our website serves as an easy, accessible edutainment site for kids with no ads.

🔍 What it does

Our website features 7 tabs, each hosting a mini game. The 7 games are:

Farty Party
ASMR Kitties
Toilet Flush
TicTacToe
NumberGuesser
UncloseableAd.

Stebe the Wholesome Possum who loves Potatoes is our cute mascot of the website. We designed this adorable mascot to make our website more appealing to children. About Stebe: Stebe with a b is a cuddly Wholesome Possum who loves Potatoes. He lives in the 1 foot branchy conifer and his favourite shady spot is next to the tiniest twig on the tree. He loves to watch over kids as they have fun and play.

🔧 How we built it

Aiming to learn as much as we could about Wix Velo in the short timeframe. We managed to learn to use the Wix tools and components following for our website:

Wix FAQ
- As a FAQ for our creative process, and how Stebe came to be
Animations
- To make the minigames and pages more exciting
Forms
- To collect bad thoughts from users for the toilet flush minigame
Database
- To store the users bad thoughts for the toilet flush minigame
Forums
- To encourage more users to engage with Stebe, and contribute their own wacky ideas to build on Stebe lore
Wix App market
- To add special components such as the button magic for customised decorations

🏃‍♂️ Challenges we ran into

It was our first time using Wix Velo (and our first time using Wix at all), so we had to learn how to use the API from scratch by reading the documentation.
- There was a lot to read up on such as animations and databases. We spent quite a bit of time looking through the sample examples to get inspiration.
Incorporating more interactive elements into our Wix page was a challenge as it was different to coding websites like we are used to. However once we understood the Wix Dev Mode interface better, we were able to make some fun stuff.
Wix was a bit slow on our computer as we don't have good wifi, but the interface, components and neat designs were useful and we were able to create what we wanted at the end, so it was worth it.
Wix is not built for real time collaboration, so we had to start off working on our segments in different projects, then taking turns to integrate it into the final submission

🏅 Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to create and publish a website with Wix in such a short period of time!
We enjoyed challenging ourselves to mix Wix's professional look with our fun and silly minigames.

We had a lot of fun coming up with the minigames and backstory for Stebe

🧠 What we learned

We wanted to explore Wix and its functionality, and we learned about some of the handy features such as forms that can automatically create and populate databases, which was useful to save time during the hackathon.
We liked Wix's many options and prebuilt features which made it easier for us to built our website with little coding experience required.

⏭️ What's next for Wholesome Possum Potatoes

Expanding on the community aspect, using Wix's forums and groups to share more about Stebe and to collaboratively come up with more minigames for Stebe.
Using the blog feature from Wix to share more about possums and how they are good for the environment (eg possums eating tics)
