Inspiration

The Problem

When we get sick in Korea, we might feel overwhelmed by the enormous amount of hospitals around us and we might not be sure which one to pick for our symptoms. This effect is even more amplified for foreigners as they have to find themselves online and/or use Papago (both not reliable sources of information). For instance, one of our members Kevin who is an expat himself in Korea, had a sprained ankle injury once. Being a foreigner and not too familiar with the medical system, Kevin was confused as to which hospital to go to. The idea of Who Da Doc came about from personal experiences as such, as well as many other similar cases we’ve heard of in Korea. Combining a well-refined UX and top of the notch technologies like AI, WhoDaDac will get you to the health professional you need in two clicks.

The Beneficiaries

Our primary beneficiaries include residents and expatriates in Korea facing language barriers and uncertainty in choosing the right healthcare provider for their symptoms. WhoDaDoc goes beyond geographical boundaries, offering a solution to anyone seeking accurate and tailored healthcare information. By simplifying the search process based on the accuracy of symptoms and matching them with each hospital/clinic's specialty, WhoDaDoc empowers users globally to make informed decisions about their health, fostering a positive impact on overall healthcare accessibility. This not only improves healthcare accessibility but also aids in making sound healthcare decisions, countering the potential misinformation that can be found on the internet.

What it does

WhoDaDoc is a user-friendly app that streamlines the healthcare search process. Users input their symptoms, selecting multiple if necessary, and indicate if English-speaking staff is preferred. The app then displays a map with clinics and hospitals specializing in treating the identified symptoms, offering a targeted and efficient approach to healthcare navigation.

Key Features:

  • Symptom-based Search Matching: Users can easily filter healthcare facilities based on the symptoms they are experiencing, eliminating confusion and directing them to the right specialists.
  • Language Accessibility: The option to filter for English-speaking staff ensures that language barriers do not hinder individuals in seeking timely medical attention.
  • Map Results: Visual representation of healthcare facilities on a map simplifies the decision-making process, especially for those unfamiliar with the local geography. Booking appointment: Users are able to view availability of the selected clinic and book appointments directly on the website/app.

Technical Details

  • Implemented AI Prompt for Native Language Search Feature - User can describe what they are feeling (their condition, pain) and the AI will suggest related symptoms
  • For the design aspect of Who Da Doc, we used Figma as a main design software.

Challenges we ran into

  • Time constraint
  • Sleep deprivation 🥱🥱😴
  • Finding a free map API posed a challenge. Many map API services were not free, limiting our ability to implement all the map-related features we initially envisioned. Nonetheless, we successfully utilized MapBox and managed to develop the MVP

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Finishing the MVP and going through the first iteration of the whole product cycle in a short period of time.
  • Having a well rounded team with different skill sets for a more holistic product.
  • Surviving a first Hackathon for everyone!!!
  • We had a great teamwork and synergy, especially for a team where we didn’t know each other prior to the event.
  • Everyone is alive 🙌

What we learned

  • Various new technical skills including Dev-Ops with Render.com and incorporating AI prompt search
  • Navigated the ins and outs of map APIs
  • Embraced the challenges and growth opportunities within a team environment, particularly for those experiencing it for the first time.
  • Gained immense value from the overall collaborative experience.
  • Learned that we can build something in a weekend! Yay Team No Sleep
