Inspiration
College can feel lonely even in a crowd. Everyone has busy schedule, no one has the time or energy to initiate. We wanted to find an easier way for people to find friends who are free to hang out and make spontaneous plans easier while spreading positivity through small daily challenges.
What it does
Who's Down? connects students who are free to hang out nearby. It includes a community feed to find people to join and an AI-powered Joy Challenge feature that suggests fun, mood-lifting activities.
How we built it
We built it using Next.js, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS for the frontend, Firebase for auth and data, and Google Gemini API to generate creative daily challenges. Hosted on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating Gemini API versions, syncing Firebase setups across devices, handling .env files securely, and building everything under a time limit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Were proud of getting our website running because we had trouble in trying to make a website with new frontend components.
What we learned
We learned more about how to be able to divide tasks based on what were good at or want to learn more. We also learned new front end programs.
What's next for Who's Down?
We want to be able to continue to add to the project more like adding more components like adding a better chat version to our website. We also want to be able to expand as an app that people can use in there day to day lives.
