Inspiration

  • All four of us are from different states, with different backgrounds and different interests. The only three things we all have in common are coding, white sauce pasta and our unified love for Benedict Cumberbatch. So when the opportunity of this hackathon rose, and that too on the theme "detective", all four of our brains jinxed at once with the same idea. Although, overtime we realized that this hackathon is spread over various countries and since we all understood the importance of feeling recognized, we decided to add a bit spice to this quiz and make it an all inclusive language guessing game which could not only test your general knowledge in an interesting way but also bring a smile to your face when you saw your native language's name on the screen.

What it does

"Who done it, Sherlock?" is a language identification game.

  • It's a guessing game designed for pure fun.
  • It can also be played by students who want to up their guessing game or for people who are learning new languages.
  • It's a game based on pure probability which tests reasoning skills, memory, general knowledge about the world we live in and investigation skills; your detective eye which can read between lines to identify answers from clues.

How we built it

We used React.js to build the website and firebase to deploy it.

Challenges we ran into

Dividing the work between 4 people and researching on our own was definitely the hardest part. Dividing duties meant we had to trust each other's work. Since, all four of us have different working paces, we had to trust in each other that each one's task shall be completed before the deadline. We faced a few errors and since we cannot travel in this pandemic, we had to discuss everything with each other only through zoom calls which got a little exhausting after a point. But everything worked out in the end and we built it in unity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we decided to participate in such a big hackathon. Starting is always the hardest part and we're proud that we made through it. We learnt a lot about our own capabilities and overcame a lot of fears along the way. Most importantly, building something from scratch in two days without any mentor is the best achievement from this journey.

What we learned

  • We increased our coding skills and used it in the practical world for the first time which is a major experience.

What's next for Who done it project

Up next is just betterment and modification. it's only high road from here since we'll look into our app's limitations and update it in the best way possible.
