Inspiration One of us has a grandfather with Alzheimer's disease. So, as soon as we heard about this hackathon, our main idea was to do something for families facing this situation.
What it does "Who am I?" is an app where family members can assist the individual with the disease by storing memories, journal entries, photo albums, and a directory of the patient's closest contacts. Additionally, there's a map feature for emergencies with a button that provides real-time location to preset contacts.
How we built it To create this app, we used the React Native framework, along with the react-native-paper library, react maps, and various APIs. We utilized GitHub technology to manage the project.
Challenges we ran into To be honest, three out of the four team members didn't have a background in programming: one is a mechanical engineer and the other two are electrical engineers. It was quite a challenge, but we achieved a lot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We learned how to use many different technologies in just two days. We had never worked together before, but we're very proud of the momentum we maintained.
What we learned One lasting realization we had is that this disease is much more common than it seems, yet it doesn't receive as much attention. We gained many new insights, both technologically and socially.
What's next for "Who am I?" We want to add new features, like a caregiver's view, so they can monitor the patient's information in real-time. "Who am I?" was created in 2 days, but it's here to stay.
