Inspiration
Soundcloud routinely blocks or deletes content it identifies as being copyrighted or containing copyrighted content, whether or not the item represents substantial new work (as in the case of remixes etc.). I sought to offer musicians (including myself) an opportunity to share their work via a streamlined platform with full functionality and no inappropriate, preemptive, fascist intellectual property micromanagement policies.
What it does
Hosts audio content in its original uploaded format - mp3, wav, ogg supported.
How I built it
This tool is a component of a bigger tool-suite ( https://whitehotrobot.dweet.net/about ) aimed at empowering artists, authors, musicians, and coders. It involves Vue.js, PHP, MySql, HTML5, CSS/CSS3, and many Linux features (e.g. crontab, bash scripting, etc.)
Challenges I ran into
just the usual - coordinating everything and an occasional stubborn bug
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The overarching goal of functionality has been met- The tool works well.
What I learned
Many new things about Vue.js, scalability, workflow prioritization, the value of modularity and reuse of code (and separateness as well, when appropriate)
What's next for Whitehot Robot Music
Hopefully widespread adoption by a thriving art & music community. Inbuild search functionality tied to URLs enables quick and easy playlists to be created via hashtags. Some docs may be created eventually, but are unneeded at present due to intuitive design.
