White Paper Fan

•

The floating restaurant in Aberdeen, a Hong Kong classic fixture and scene of business deals.

•

The Golden Dragons, a criminal gang led by Bobby "Four Finger" Fu, who lost one of his fingers, but nobody's sure which one.

•

The Fu Family is driven around town in their Jaguar.

I filmed the first non-AI 30 minute version of this movie in high school with my friends (15+ years ago). I grew up in Hong Kong and criminal-cop movies are a category favorite (Infernal Affairs --> The Departed). I also grew up watching Guy Ritchie films like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, that made quite an impression for the cockney accented narration and tensely humorous scenes.

The plot remains the same. White Paper Fan follows the Fu family, a Hong Kong criminal gang that employs Charlie (Gweilo), as their White Paper Fan -- financial advisor. For decades, they've made their money in the illicit diamond trade. But when Fu's father is killed, and new gangs enter the market, the family has to fight. Struggling with the morality of the industry, Charlie wants out and creates an exit strategy.

Song: That's How It Goes - I made this on Suno. It was a challenge to write the lyrics, but very fun. I wanted a big band, gambling man themed background. I drew inspiration from "That's Life," a Frank Sinatra song I used in an earlier trailer rendition.

I usd Veo3 to create the visuals and maintained consistency of characters using consistent prompts and the scenebuilder feature.
