Inspiration

Our inspiration stems from a critical gap in the cybersecurity training world. Traditional platforms are excellent for teaching static techniques, but they are like a shooting range – you learn to hit a non-moving target. This led us to ask a fundamental question:

"Where do cyber professionals go to spar? Where can they test their skills, creativity, and adaptability against a live, thinking opponent?"

The answer was nowhere. PurpleForge was born from the desire to create the world's first true sparring simulator for cybersecurity, moving beyond static labs to a dynamic, gamified arena where skills are not just learned, but battle-tested.

What it does

PurpleForge is a next-generation cybersecurity training platform that gamifies skill development through a live, AI-powered Player-vs-Player (PvP) sparring simulator.

  • Live Arena: A Red Teamer (attacker) and a Blue Teamer (defender) enter a timed "arena" with a specific objective.
  • Real-time Interaction: The attacker attempts to achieve their goal (e.g., steal a session cookie), while the defender works to detect and block them in real-time.
  • AI Coach: The platform provides a live log of actions and contextual feedback from an AI Coach, guiding the players and assessing their performance to accelerate learning.

The ultimate vision is a platform that uses AI to dynamically generate infinite scenarios and provide personalized feedback, creating the definitive training and benchmarking tool for cyber professionals.

How we built it

The entire development process for PurpleForge, from ideation to deployment, was conducted within the bolt.new ecosystem. Our goal was to build a modern, production-ready frontend application that is performant, maintainable, and provides a stellar user experience.

The interactive PvP simulation itself runs as a Single Page Application (SPA). The game logic and the 'AI Coach' responses, which we pre-generated with an LLM, are managed on the client-side using React's state management hooks. This allowed us to create a highly interactive and dynamic-feeling demo entirely within the browser.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Massive Scope: Our initial vision was huge. The biggest challenge was ruthlessly scoping down the concept of a live PvP arena into a demonstrable MVP within 48 hours.
  2. Simulating Real-Time AI: A true, live AI integration was not feasible. Our challenge was to creatively solve this:
    • Attempt a live LLM integration
    • Solution: Pre-generate AI content and build a client-side state machine that convincingly mimics a live, intelligent coach.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We built a functional, end-to-end prototype of our core 'Sparring Simulator' in under 48 hours. It's not just a slideshow; it's a working demo.
  • We created an intuitive and immersive user experience, successfully conveying the tension and excitement of a live cyber duel.
  • We solidified a game-changing product vision that goes far beyond traditional training methods.

What we learned

  1. The Power of the MVP: It's far better to have one core feature working perfectly than ten features that are half-baked. Focus is everything.
  2. The Art of Smart Prototyping: We learned how to demonstrate a complex, futuristic idea on a tight deadline by simulating the most difficult components.
  3. Agility Under Pressure: This project reinforced our ability to make tough strategic decisions and pivot our technical approach to meet a deadline.

What's next for PurpleForge

Our roadmap is clear and we are excited to get started on the next phase.

  • [ ] Gather feedback on our hackathon MVP and refine the core gameplay loop.
  • [ ] Replace the simulated AI with a live API connection to an LLM for true dynamic scenario generation.
  • [ ] Develop a wider variety of PvP scenarios (CTF, AD Pentesting, Web App Exploits).
  • [ ] Build out the community features: user accounts, leaderboards, and a skill-based ranking system.

Our long-term vision is for PurpleForge to become the definitive e-sports platform for cybersecurity, fundamentally changing how skills are developed and benchmarked in the industry.
