"Journal writing is a voyage to the interior." That quote by Christina Baldwin stayed with me.

Mental health is more important than ever—but journaling, a proven method to reduce stress and increase self-awareness, often feels like a chore. I wanted to build something that made it feel effortless. What if journaling could be as simple as talking to a friend?

What It Does

Whisper is a voice-powered journaling companion. Just speak your thoughts—Whisper listens, understands, and gently encourages you to talk more about your day, your feelings, and your experiences. It responds like a thoughtful friend, asking reflective questions and helping you go deeper.

It then transforms your voice logs into emotionally intelligent, beautifully written journal entries.
No blank pages. No typing. Just your authentic voice—preserved.

Beyond mental clarity, Whisper becomes a personal memory vault. Whether you're capturing a tough day, a small joy, or a life milestone, it helps you remember what matters—through your own words.

How I Built It

Whisper runs on a fast and secure full-stack pipeline:

  • ElevenLabs for crystal-clear transcription and as the speaking agent
  • OpenAI for human-like understanding and emotional insight
  • Supabase for secure, scalable storage
  • Railway for seamless backend hosting and fast delivery
  • Netlify for smooth frontend deployment
  • 21stDev for inspiring UI design ideas
  • Entri to purchase the domain
  • React & Tailwind CSS for a clean and intuitive frontend experience

I built this solo in under a week—learning and shipping fast.

Challenges

  • Diving into backend development with almost zero prior experience
  • Integrating APIs, webhooks, and managing real-time data flow
  • Crafting journal entries that feel personal, not robotic
  • Designing a minimal, calming user interface that invites daily use
  • Ensuring user data remains private and secure

Each challenge pushed me out of my comfort zone—and helped me grow as both an engineer and storyteller.
