🍪 WhiskIt

▶ Introduction

Not everyone is a natural chef. Lots of us have probably discovered that the hard way... Whether your cookies burned in the oven or your personally cooked dinner turned out to be inedible, we've all reached the point where becoming a talented and successful cook seemed impossible. However, with WhiskIt, you can finally chase your culinary arts dreams (or simply save money by learning to cook yourself dinner)!

🍳 Inspiration

Although we're not always successful in our cooking and baking endeavours, we have a passion for exploring the culinary arts with our fellow family members! Usually, we follow YouTube tutorials or Google articles created by famous chefs. But recently, we ran out of simple tutorials to follow as most of them required numerous ingredients which we did not have immediate access to in our fridge. As a result, we were motivated to build WhiskIt to solve this problem and help other cooking/baking enthusiasts who are also looking for an accessible application that can empower their culinary arts journey!

🤷‍♀️ What it does

WhiskIt is a revolutionary AI-based tool which guides you step by step in your cooking/baking journey! Our "whisk" application accepts user input with the ingredients they have available in their fridge and generates a precise recipe with an ingredients list and detailed steps. Afterwards, users can copy and paste the steps they require visual guidance for into our "mix" tool, which generates an image for that step. Our "mix" image generation feature will be replaced with AI video generation in the future.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

Although we originally planned to implement a video generator that could provide a visual guide for each of the AI-generated recipe steps, we were unable to find a free and reliable API source. As a result, we were forced to administer an AI image generator instead of a video generator. However, we will definitely complete it as a future feature when the tools are available! Additionally, throughout the process of building WhiskIt, we experienced trouble finding dependable API resources for our AI text-based recipe generator chatbot.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of our collaboration in an effort to evenly separate the workload, as well as our ability to preserve a static HTML, CSS, and JS website instead of having to implement a server (which was difficult for us as beginners), all while we incorporated AI API keys originally meant for servers.

🧠 What we learned

We learned to create an interactive static (HTML, CSS, and Javascript) website while we mastered incorporating API keys for our two AI tools!

⏯ What's next for WhiskIt

As we mentioned above, we will incorporate AI video generation instead of image generation for guidance on the steps. Furthermore, we will add statistics for the user's dashboard, pages for the respective recipes (which will include ratings and review systems), as well as apply the user's personal recipes separately in their dashboard.
