I was inspired by children with autism—especially those who enjoy life in their own special way, often finding comfort in their own unique worlds. I wanted to create something gentle and meaningful for them. WhimsyMind is my small step to bring joy, comfort, and creativity into their daily lives, helping them feel safe, seen, and supported.
WhimsyMind is a gentle AI companion designed for children with autism to help them feel calm, creative, and confident.
It offers: Simple drawing prompts to spark imagination and self-expression. Encouraging messages, even for small efforts, to build confidence and celebrate every step forward. The goal is to create a peaceful, friendly space where neurodiverse children can engage at their own pace and feel supported just as they are.
We used no-code and low-code tools to make WhimsyMind easy to build and accessible.
Free AI tools helped generate creative prompts, emotional check-ins, and calming scripts. Visual elements were added using simple design tools to make the interface friendly and engaging for children. Everything was built with simplicity and softness in mind.
Designing for neurodiverse users requires sensitivity—making sure everything is calm, predictable, and not overstimulating.
Finding the right tone for prompts and conversations took time. Working with limited resources and keeping it beginner-friendly with free tools was a challenge.
Creating something that could bring a smile or sense of peace to an autistic child.
Learning to use no-code tools and AI creatively to solve a real-world problem. Keeping the experience simple, gentle, and accessible—true to the needs of its users.
Simplicity matters—especially when building for children with autism.
Empathy should guide every design decision, from colors to words. You don't need advanced tech to make something meaningful—you just need the right intent.
Adding more visual routines and sensory-friendly activities like breathing exercises or soft music.
Making it voice-interactive for kids who are more comfortable listening than reading. Collaborating with parents, therapists, and educators to improve the experience. Sharing it with the world as an open-source project so others can contribute and build on it.
