Inspiration

Do you know friends caught in a cycle of worry, procrastination, and self-doubt? Amid global upheavals that fuel anxiety and lead to suboptimal health, we built Whimsy Journey—a health-facilitating platform with a wit and cute vibe! Drawing on our interdisciplinary expertise in psychology and computer science, we guide users through 65 questions inspired by 13 counseling approaches and habit-formation research. Our playful cat paws journey, charming cartoon cats, and Cuddle Mode foster intimate support groups—reminding users they’re not alone on their path to a more mindful, balanced, and fulfilling life.

What it does

WhimsyJourney transforms mental health tracking into an explorative game:

  • Paws & Memos: With 65 self-exploration questions drawn from 13 counseling genres, each "paw" unlocks a classic question that illuminates a new path.
  • AI-Enhanced Journaling: DeepSeek’s NLP analyzes entries across five psychological dimensions (cognition, emotion, socialization, motivation, and self-development), generating personalized insights.
  • Social Scaffolding: A cuddle system creates accountability via streak mechanisms, rewarding milestones at 22, 44, and 66 days—marking a full 3-month journey.

How we built it

  • Design
    • Crafted interactive paws and styled cartoon icons in SVG format using Figma.
  • Frontend
    • Built with React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Authentication
    • Integrated Firebase Auth with Google SSO, e-mail authentication.
  • Database
    • Utilized Firestore with real-time sync for journal entries.
  • AI Layer
    • Fine-tuned a Gemini AI model for contextual and emotional analysis, generating periodic user reviews.
    • Developed a recommendation system based on user preferences in the future.

Challenges we ran into

  • Design Hurdles: As first-time hackathon participants with limited design experience, we invested time learning and creating a brand logo, cartoon cats, and interactive paws to evoke warmth, cuteness, and playfulness.
  • Tech Stack Pivot: With heavy front-end content, we feared insufficient time for local database and backend development. After consulting our mentor, we switched our tech stack to integrate Firebase for a streamlined solution.
