Inspiration

The project was inspired by the universal feeling of burnout and the daydreams of escaping a tedious work life. We wanted to explore what would happen if a hardworking office employee could literally offload all his responsibilities onto robots. The concept blends humor, fantasy, and slice-of-life storytelling, creating a narrative that’s both relatable and visually entertaining.

What it does

The music video follows a human office worker drowning in tasks and dealing with a bad boss. He fantasizes about robots taking over his work, and in the video, we see these robots enduring the daily struggles of commuting, office chaos, and micromanagement. Meanwhile, the human protagonist enjoys life—fishing, partying, and spending time with his girlfriend—highlighting the humorous contrast between human leisure and robotic toil.

How we built it

We built the concept by mapping out parallel narratives: the human protagonist’s carefree adventures versus the robots’ stressful daily routines. Storyboards were created to emphasize comedic timing, visual gags, and the contrast between human freedom and robotic labor. The music video integrates dynamic shots of the human enjoying life with cinematic sequences of the robots’ office struggles, using lighting, color grading, and props to enhance the narrative.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was making it immediately clear that the robots were handling the human’s work without confusing the audience. Another was depicting robots in relatable, human-like stress situations while keeping the video visually engaging and humorous. Synchronizing the music with comedic actions also required careful planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a concept that turns a common fantasy—escaping work stress—into a funny and visually striking narrative. The parallel storytelling effectively contrasts the human’s joy with the robots’ labor, and the video blends comedy, storytelling, and music in a cohesive and entertaining way.

What we learned

We learned the importance of visual storytelling in music videos, especially when conveying parallel narratives. We also gained experience in timing music with action, designing humorous robotic characters, and creating a clear narrative that enhances the song rather than competes with it.

What’s next for Robot Vacation

Next, we plan to: Refine choreography and timing to enhance the interaction between music beats and visual gags. Develop more detailed robot character designs to maximize comedic potential. Explore advanced visual effects to highlight robot fatigue and office chaos. Pitch the concept to music video producers or use it for live performance visuals.
