Inspiration & what it does

A WPA2 WiFi network with a preshared key everyone knows is like an unencrypted wifi network. As we have such an "unencrypted" network here at this hackathon, we can process and visualize the transferred data. To transfer this into physical art, we create a heat map consisting of LEDs, which shows the destination of the packets in the WiFi stream.

How we built it

It's a combination of WiFi cards in monitor mode, wireshark, elasticsearch, arduino and ws2812b LEDs.

Challenges we ran into

  • decryption of the WPA2 packets
  • handling the amount of data (big data problems)
  • (as computer science students) transfer a world map onto cardboard
