Inspiration

We kept losing our train of thought after "quickly" checking YouTube, so we built AI that notices and quietly helps you get back on track.

What it does

Where Was I? is a Chrome extension that, when you return from a distraction, shows a card with what you were doing, exactly where you stopped, key points and a next step, without you ever writing a prompt.

How we built it

We built a Chrome extension in plain JavaScript that tracks your tabs and reading position, detects when you come back from a distraction, and uses Google's Gemini API to write the summary card.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenges were debugging silent service worker crashes, handling a Gemini model that was retired mid-hackathon, and making sure the card always described the right tab.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that it needs zero prompts, reads exactly where you stopped, and always shows a helpful card even when the AI is unavailable.

What we learned

We learned how Chrome extensions really work and that making AI "invisible" is mostly about knowing when to appear and when to stay out of the way.
