🚀 Inspiration
Urban mobility is often inconvenient, expensive, or restricted to a single vehicle type. We identified a gap: people needed short-term, flexible access to a variety of vehicles — whether it’s a bicycle for a quick errand, a scooter to beat traffic, or a car for a brief commute.
Most existing platforms focus on long-term rentals or single-category services. Wheely was created to change that — a unified platform offering hourly rentals for bicycles, scooters, bikes, and cars — all in one place.
💡 What It Does
Wheely is your smart mobility companion for hourly, on-demand transportation. Users can:
- 🧭 Browse and book nearby vehicles (bikes, scooters, cars, etc.)
- ⏰ Select pickup time and rental duration
- 🛣️ Ride freely, on their own terms
- 📍 Return the vehicle at designated drop-off zones
Whether you're a tourist, student, delivery professional, or someone on the move — Wheely offers unmatched convenience and flexibility.
🛠 How We Built It
- Frontend: Developed using React Native for cross-platform compatibility (iOS & Android)
- Navigation: Powered by Expo Router for fluid navigation
- UI/UX: Clean and intuitive design inspired by leading mobility apps; built using Lucide Icons
- State Management: Utilized React Hooks and the Context API
- Backend: Powered by Django Rest Framework (DRF) for robust APIs
⚠️ Challenges We Faced
- Creating a scrollable and dynamic interface for ride and location selection
- Designing modals that integrate smoothly with the app’s navigation
- Ensuring visual consistency across various device sizes and platforms
🏆 Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
- 🚀 Delivered a fully functional UI prototype with interactive features and multi-language support
- 🧩 Designed a scalable system architecture for easy integration of GPS, payments, and real-time inventory
- 🎨 Crafted a polished brand identity with a custom logo, tagline, and cohesive design
- 📱 Achieved a responsive UI that feels native on both Android and iOS
- 🔗 Backend is production-ready for future feature rollouts
📚 What We Learned
- Deeper understanding of React Native’s capabilities and quirks, especially in handling animations and modals
- Best practices in scalable architecture and localization-first design
- Importance of user-first UX in building successful mobility solutions
- Valuable insight into the needs of diverse user personas: commuters, students, tourists, and gig workers
🔮 What’s Next for Wheely
- 💳 Payment Gateway Integration (Stripe, Razorpay, etc.)
- 📍 Real-time GPS Tracking for vehicle pickup and return
- 🎁 Loyalty & Referral Program
- 🌐 City-wise rollout and dynamic service availability
- 💬 In-app Support with FAQs and real-time chat
🔁 Subletting Feature (Coming Soon)
Introducing an innovative Subletting System that lets users optimize unused rental time.
For example, if a user rents a vehicle for 6 hours but only uses it for 2, they can sublet the remaining 4 hours to another verified user through the app. This allows:
- ⬇️ Reduced rental costs for the original user
- 🔄 Better vehicle utilization and availability
- 🤝 A community-driven, cost-sharing experience
This feature promotes a shared economy model while keeping user control and accountability intact.
Wheely is redefining short-term urban transportation — smarter, faster, and more flexible 🚴♂️🛵🚗.
