Inspiration
One input is a challenging topic for a gamejam, most ideas tend to be recycled mobile games and it took me a while to think of a novel idea. WHEEL-ESTATE manages to avoid that pitfall and provide an experience I have never seen before. The game is aesthetically heavily inspired by wii-era design.
What it does
This game takes a singular input, the space bar, and translates it into 8-directional movement based on how often/long you press it. Normally *tame obstacle courses are made challenging using this novel system of navigation. Can you make it through all 6 levels?
How I built it
I built this project in godot using gdscript.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into UI issues in godot. A small change would destroy the structure of a carefully crafted scene, and sometimes I wouldn't notice it until far later. It was frustrating but I'll learn from it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Over the past few months I have been learning shader programming and this was the first project I was really able to show it off in!
What we learned
I learnt when to give up. I had a few ideas I had really wanted to implement but I didn't necessarily have the technical know how. I spent a while trying to get the desired results to no avail, and at some point I knew it'd be best to work on another part of the project.
NOTE: Just because I made a game solo with a semi-retro aesthetic, does not mean that I am purposely aiming for those categories!!!
