Inspiration 🌟💡

The inception of What Happened Today was fueled by frustration. While browsing Wikipedia, I realized that over 50% of referenced news articles had been removed, leaving gaps in our collective history. This motivated me to create a platform on the NEAR blockchain, where published articles would remain forever.

What it does 🚀🌐

What Happened Today is a groundbreaking News Publishing website. It allows anyone to publish articles, which are stored securely on the NEAR blockchain for eternity. Users can read, share, and filter articles based on category, tags, author, publishing agency, and more.

How we built it 🛠️🔨

Initially, a team of four members embarked on this ambitious project. However, as challenges arose, one by one, my teammates decided to pursue different paths. Determined to see the project through, I continued working alone, diving into the world of NEAR blockchain and smart contracts.

Challenges we ran into 💪🔥

With limited experience in NEAR blockchain, writing smart contracts and integrating them posed significant challenges. Navigating the learning curve while building a robust platform tested my perseverance and problem-solving skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 🎉🏆

Throughout this hackathon journey, I successfully implemented the smart contract, leveraging IPFS to store the news articles securely. Overcoming hurdles and building a functional prototype on my own is an accomplishment that fills me with pride.

What we learned 📚💡

This solo journey taught me the power of determination and the importance of continuous learning. I gained valuable knowledge about smart contracts, NEAR blockchain, and the integration of decentralized technologies into real-world applications.

What's next for WhatHappenedToday 🚀🔮

Looking ahead, What Happened Today has boundless potential. One exciting future feature is the introduction of premium stories available exclusively to subscription members. Subscribers will enjoy access to exclusive content, including in-depth reports, magazines, and press covers. Imagine witnessing Apple's new product launch events solely on our platform, accessible only to our valued subscribers who pay the subscription fee in NEAR tokens.
