Ever since the beginning of quarantine, we've always had the desire to do something fun, but never had the willpower to make plans and go for it. Now that we're spending most of our time stuck at home, we figured we ought to get to know our own local community better.

What it does

Introducing Where To?? -- a custom day trip itinerary generator featuring local businesses, parks, restaurants, and museums, encouraging users to explore their local communities. Simply input your location, search radius, time availability, and activity preferences, and we'll narrow down the best activities for you to plan the perfect day trip!

How we built it

We built our front end with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript, integrating the extensive Google Maps and Google Places APIs to find the best local establishments near you.

Challenges we ran into

Two out of our members have never used HTML, CSS, or JavaScript before this hackathon, so they had to learn all of it from scratch. When building our web app, we found that the Google Places API only allows queries of one type of establishment; this forced us to find a creative workaround to allow users to find activities in multiple categories simultaneously.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we were able to finish our product, especially considering that some of us are first-time hackathon attendees and learned web development from scratch!

What we learned

Besides web development, we learned how to pivot when our initial idea was too complicated or required API features that weren't available.
