WhatDinner?

You argue with your partner what to cook for dinner?
You lack daily inspirations on what to cook?
You found a partner via Tinder and miss the tinder-like swipe and like cooking?

Then this is app is for you:
You provide us the list of recipes you cook.
You tell us how often you like to cook the recipes. (C'mon you don't want to cook pasta every day).
You connect us with your partner. (Don't worry, this is not Tinder)
We propose you a few options every day.
You and your partner tell us which one you like.
We decide for you. Simple as that.

How was this idea born?

My girlfriend and I like to cook dinner together. We would struggle to agree on what to cook, or lack ideas. Initially, I created a simple script, which would propose 3 recipes from a database of recipes we collected. We would then decide from those three. Later, I adopted that to a website, which would do the same (this was two years ago). A friend of mine convinced me to create an app. I spent a few weeks to learn SwiftUI and created the first app (called WhatDinner, because I was not creative enough). So the app stayed in TestFlight for a year, I used it with my girlfriend. Tried to expand it to publish it on the app store, but never felt the pressure. This Hackaton was the kick I needed to publish it. The payment part is a bit rushed, but the idea is there and working - hopefully can help other couples as well.

Features

For now, this app offers the minimal features:

  • Collect your recipes (with a short description and images you took)
  • Link with other family members (mainly meant for couples, but can be used for families as well)
  • Swipe daily to tell us your preference
  • Upon a match, we will show you the match
  • Ability to configure getting a reminder daily
  • Ability to configure (for pro options) if you want to see your partner's choice + how many days to ignore a selected recipe
