Inspiration
Many college students are seen posting on social media websites like Reddit that they are new to the area and missed out on events such as orientation. They hope for more friends, organizations to participate in and cool places to see in Austin. Our website meets their hopes.
What it does
The website allows students to post reviews on already listed organizations, events, restaurants, sights. Higher rated reviews should rise to the top, and students should easily navigate these reviews on the website to find fun things to do. It also allows people to propose new orgs, events, restaurants, and sights to be added as a recommendation to the sight, which will get approved by the people running the site.
How I built it
It was built with a NodeJS backend and a React frontend. Most content is static.
Challenges I ran into
The main issue was finding out how to build forms and connect mongodb database with the backend to put results on the frontend. The solution was to use mock data in a json file.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Many people in the team learned how to make a website for the first time which is nice.
What We learned
We learned to build a full stack static website.
What's next for What We Do
We will figure out how to add mongodb and forms to the website. Also we will add bootstrapping to make the website look better.
