Inspiration
MLB proposed an interesting challenge. When we read the challenge details we knew exactly what we wanted to do. Let's make chatbots modelled after each player, that give fans the chance to get an understanding of game-state in the tone of their favorite player.
What it does
Open the app allows fans to view, real-time commentary on the game from players on the field.
How we built it
We used Android Studio for app development, Google Sites for our mobile website, Google AI studio for our player chatbots.
Challenges we ran into
Tried reycleView and cardView in android studio, but couldn't give live updates. Settled on a webView to a website were we manually update the user interface.
We also tried to make our own player model with Google Vertex AI, however we needed player closed caption data, from press conference before and after the game. To serve as text data we would feed into the model. This didn't work because only had access to MLB announcer commentary.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our first time using Android studio webView.
What we learned
Love the lore of baseball; no handshakes, Yankees are best team (earn you pinstripes), #42 is an inspiration.
What's next for What the team thinking
Adding celebrity, coaches, manager, owner chatbots.
