What That Dress

Turn any photo into instant shopping links with What That Dress mobile app.

Inspiration

Ever spotted the perfect outfit on someone and spent hours scrolling through shopping sites trying to recreate it? We built What That Dress because visual search shouldn't require a PhD in detective work.

What it does

What That Dress is a mobile app that uses AI to turn any photo into instant shopping links. Users snap or upload images of items they like and get similar products with prices, descriptions, and direct purchase links. Like Pinterest for shopping, users can save finds to collections and share discoveries with friends.

How we built it

We leveraged Bolt's no-code platform to rapidly prototype and build the React Native/Expo mobile app using text prompts. The AI-powered reverse image search backend runs on Modal - a serverless GPU service, handling image processing and product matching at scale.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a visual agent to accurately match diverse products across different angles, lighting, and contexts proved tricky. We also had to fix some Bolt related package versioning issues manually.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a fully functional AI-powered shopping app in record time using Bolt's platform. The app feels polished and delivers genuinely useful results that we personally want to and will use.

What we learned

Bolt can dramatically accelerates development but requires step-by-step guidance and evaluation. Code agents tend to generate a lot of unnecessary fluff, which can be improved with strict prompts and initial guidelines.

What's next for What that dress?

Improving search and product matching even more, and adding social features like outfit recommendations from friends.
