What’s The Move ASU

Inspiration

The heartbeat of Arizona State University is its vibrant student life, but too often, students miss out on great events because they simply didn't know about them. Inspired by the need for a centralized, accessible, and interactive platform, What’s The Move ASU was born - with the vision to connect every student to the pulse of campus life.

What it does

What’s The Move ASU serves as a digital hub for ASU events and social gatherings. It enables students to explore a wide range of activities, from academic seminars and sports events to social meetups and cultural festivals. The platform allows for real-time sharing of event details!

How we built it

We built What's The Move ASU using a modern tech stack that provides a robust and scalable foundation. The frontend was crafted with React, offering a seamless and interactive user experience. For the backend, we chose Flask, which works in concert with a Firebase database to handle our data needs efficiently. We've ensured secure access with Cloudflare SSL and a Firebase authentication processes, all hosted on an Apache server for reliable uptime.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the platform could handle a large number of concurrent users, reflecting ASU’s vast student body. Creating a responsive design that maintains usability across various devices was also demanding. Integrating different event formats and coordinating real-time updates required rigorous backend structuring.

We are proud to have created a platform that not only meets the needs of ASU students but does so with style and awesomeness.

What we learned

The project honed our skills in full-stack development, UI/UX design, real-time data handling, and scalability. We've gained invaluable insights into the importance of community-centered design and the impact of technology on student engagement.

What's next for WTM ASU

Looking ahead, we aim to implement a mobile application, expand our platform to include more interactive features like live event updates, and allow users to view locations on an interactive map. Our goal is to make What's The Move ASU an indispensable part of student life here at ASU.
