What's Suds

Inspiration

From our personal experience living in SUTD hostel for 3 terms, the shared laundry process in the SUTD hostel is often frustrating and time consuming, and we were inspired to remove the unpredictability and wasted effort from an everyday task.

What it does

What’s Suds is a mobile application that lets SUTD hostel residents check real-time machine availability, book slots, and receive smart notifications so the laundry process becomes predictable and stress-free.

How we built it

We built What’s Suds using Flutter to create a fast, cross-platform mobile prototype with interactive booking, machine status tracking, and timers.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was designing a system that realistically simulates live machine status and booking logic while keeping the prototype simple and intuitive.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud of creating a user-friendly prototype that demonstrates a complete laundry workflow from booking to payment to push notifications within a day.

What we learned

We learned how thoughtful UX design, real-time data concepts, and rapid prototyping can turn a any small everyday problem into a meaningful digital solution.
