A Web Scrapper which provides developers with a platform to checkout upcoming coding contest and hackathons across websites all at once place.

Inspiration

It all began with our first hackathon and our first experience being part of wonderful community of developers. It instilled in us the importance of teamwork, collaboration and networking. While being part of such a community was something beyond the realms of our imagination, starting late in our 3rd year of college brought about a certain regret, that why did we not know about this before.

We believe that Everyone should have the power to know of whats happening so they can make informed choices and not be a victim of awareness.

This is what inspired us and why we decided to give back to the community that helped us in gaining such enriching experiences. So that anyone regardless of their experience can be a part of something amazing.

What it does

  • Our Project was designed to provide the latest events from everywhere that could be considered to be a tech event. Whether it be from big Competitive Coding Platforms such as Codeforces, CodeChef, Leetcode or hackathon organising sites like MLH, Devpost, Devfolio, etc.

  • Not just this but also provide a an interactive community from many other concentrated communities that would normally remain in their niche.

  • It Provides the feature to set goals and track progress. Goals being the number of events you decide to participate in.

  • Our Project uses Web Scrappers to get data from all these different websites which is run on a cron job basis that is twice everyday or any other such requirement.

How we built it

  • We have gone through several websites and gathered the data through our custom web-scrappers built on cheerio library and puppeteer library which are used to scrape sites.

  • The front end was made using React and designed to be used only for mobile devices.

Challenges we ran into

Web Scrapper are very difficult, it was really hard to extract data from sites, as they vary a lot from site to site providing different levels and depths of information.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first time working on a web-scrapper and we were able to nail down the majority of the features we wanted

What we learned

Web Scrapper are really HARD ! ,but the things you can make with it very versatile and informative which is worth the pain.

We have also learnt that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. And we can use simple innovative ides to make staggering applications bring give life to some really cool projects.

What's next for What's Next?

  • Working to improve the community, community is on of our main focuses as they keep the people excited, informed and inspired

  • Making a more versatile scrapper

  • Incorporating more websites and platforms
