🎨 QRt Gallery: Where QR Codes Become Art
🧠 Inspiration
QR codes are everywhere — on payments, menus, websites — but they’re always boring, black-and-white boxes. I wanted to reimagine the QR experience into something personal, expressive, and shareable.
That’s how QRt Gallery was born: a community-powered platform where QR codes are transformed into scannable pieces of art — from cute pastel vibes to neon-lit graffiti tags.
🛠️ What I Built
QRt Gallery is a full-stack web app that lets users:
- Generate stylish, scannable QR codes from any text, UPI link, or social profile
- Choose between design modes:
🌸 Cute, 🎨 Creative, 🧃 Graffiti, and more - Add custom colors, gradient backgrounds, 3D shadow effects, or even blend QR codes with uploaded images
- Submit their QR art to a Supabase-powered community gallery, with credit to their name and optional Twitter handle
- Explore other users’ creations, copy the encoded data, or just enjoy the visual art
Every QR remains fully functional and scannable — while expressing the creator’s identity.
🔧 How It Works
- Frontend built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- QR styling powered by
qr-code-styling, allowing:- Dot/rounded/square modules
- Gradient fills
- Image overlays
- CSS 3D tilt/shadow effects
- Backend via Supabase:
- Stores QR metadata and PNG files
- Hosts the public community gallery with real-time fetch and upload
- Optional background textures and graffiti themes are layered using simple Canvas logic + CSS blending
🧪 What I Learned
- How to create visually customized but still scannable QR codes
- How to store and retrieve media files with Supabase Storage
- Techniques for blending images and QR codes without breaking usability
- Building a fun UX that makes users feel like artists — not just users
- Handling design themes dynamically based on detected content (e.g., Instagram, GitHub, UPI, etc.)
🚧 Challenges Faced
- Balancing creative freedom with QR readability: certain color and contrast combinations would break scanning
- Making sure graffiti-style effects looked real while keeping the QR legible
- Ensuring the gallery loads fast even with image-heavy content
- Styling the UI to feel like an art platform, not a dev tool
🌟 Final Thoughts
QRt Gallery isn't just a utility — it's a celebration of creativity.
It shows that even the most functional things, like QR codes, can be a form of self-expression and community.
This was one of the most fun and visually creative projects I’ve built, and I hope it inspires others to see code and art as two sides of the same coin.
