What if the thing chasing you… is yourself?

Inspiration

This project was inspired by the idea that the most terrifying threat is often the one that comes from within. I wanted to explore the feeling of being hunted by your own darker self, and how identity can fracture under fear. The story focuses on the internal struggle that we try to escape but cannot outrun.

What it does

The short creates an intense psychological horror experience in under sixty seconds. It captures a man trying to flee a terrifying presence, only to discover that the thing chasing him is his own inner self. The video builds tension quickly and delivers a symbolic and explosive ending designed for short form platforms.

How we built it

The project was created using AI video generation and AI audio tools. Kling AI and Higgsfield were used to generate the key visual sequences. Suno was used to create the music sound. CapCut was used to edit and assemble the entire short with the final pacing, transitions, and visual clarity needed for mobile viewing.

Challenges we ran into

Keeping the story clear and emotionally strong within less than sixty seconds was a challenge. Another difficulty was maintaining consistent visual identity across the AI generated scenes. Balancing symbolism with fast paced action required multiple iterations. Ensuring the voice and sound design matched the tone of the visuals was also essential.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We are proud of creating a psychological horror short that works without external villains, relying only on emotion, symbolism, and identity. The short captures a complete narrative loop in a very tight duration. We also achieved a consistent visual mood and a strong emotional hook optimized for social platforms.

What we learned

We learned how powerful internal conflict can be as a storytelling engine. The project also helped refine techniques for short form pacing, AI scene consistency, and effective use of audio cues to drive tension.

The next step is to continue exploring psychological horror in short form formats. Future projects will expand on themes of identity, inner conflict, and self confrontation, using AI tools to push visual and emotional impact even further.
