WHAT IF? is an AI healthcare companion that finds the denials, cost surprises and access problems that can derail a medical visit — and gives you a plain-language prep plan for each.
Inspiration: Healthcare accessibility is often treated as a binary checklist rather than a nuanced reality, leaving patients vulnerable to unexpected obstacles like broken elevators or missing equipment.
What it does: The platform empowers patients with an interactive Multiverse simulator for contingency planning, a digital Accessibility Passport for easy profile sharing, and a facility Reality Check for accommodation auditing.
How we built it: It was developed using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS, featuring a custom decision-tree traversal engine and native accessibility toggles like high-contrast mode and text-to-speech.
Challenges & Learnings: Key challenges included balancing deep simulation workflows with a clean UI, teaching us that proactive contingency planning significantly reduces medical appointment anxiety.
What's next: Future goals include building live hospital data integrations, expanding AI scenario personalization, and launching dedicated caregiver and provider portals.
