Inspiration

Coming across information about how ethanol travels through the body has given me rational ground for not turning drinking into a problem. Snapchat seems to be the right platform to share this information via interactive AR world lens.

What it does

It allows the user to see another person as if under x-ray – to explore all the major organs affected by alcohol.

How we built it

Gradually. The visuals utilise "volumetric illustration" technique – one that I've used in previous projects as well, mixed with some custom material shaders.

Challenges we ran into

The two TextToSpeech voices provided in Snapchat each make seperate mistakes. Sam is unable to say "kidneys" (sounds more like "candies") and Sasha just beeps instead of saying "urine". I went for the latter nevertheless.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The illustrations look super cool as always. Especially with all the animated moving fluids, while still keeping the lens size under 1,5 Mb.

What we learned

Rendering camera masks in sort of a back-buffer was one of the greatest single challenges for me.

What's next for What alcohol does to your body?

Further UX testing and tweaks.
