Inspiration
We are inspired by the challenges faced from opening heavy doors.
What it does
Aids in opening doors by reducing force needed to open a door. This is done by making a device that acts like a lever.
How we built it
We used Autodesk Inventor to model the parts, then used the assembly function to put the parts together.
Challenges we ran into
Two of our group members are in ECE and have not used CAD software since first year. Originally, we wanted to choose Bio-Design or Rethinking Clean prompts, however those filled up before we were able to sign up. Because of this we had to pivot to the accessibility challenge. We also needed to make the design compatible for both round and lever style doorknobs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first designathon and we are happy we showed up and gave our best effort! We are proud of our ideas as we feel that it is a challenge that can be easily solved while being low in cost.
What we learned
We further developed our CAD and brainstorming skills.
What's next for Whale
Conduct research to figure out what materials to use when producing the product. We also want to alter the circular parts of the device to be bent into any doorknob and use a rubber material to prevent slipping.
