Inspiration

With the cost of living crisis, good financial literacy is more crucial than ever, yet many struggle with this important skill. Improving your financial literacy can feel like a daunting and convoluted task, but that's where MoneyBeaver comes in! MoneyBeaver makes managing your finances a fun, stress-free and step-by-step journey.

What it does

MoneyBeaver places users at the heart of its philosophy. First of all, we provide a bespoke and personalised learning environment where users can interactively learn key financial concepts and test out their knowledge on them with a range of quizzes. We also allow users the track their progress and experience, as well as have fun and compete with their friends on our leaderboard.

We also help users develop smart goal plans with BeaverAI, a personalised assistant to help users with any financial goal they are working towards. Currently, most financial apps only go so far as to help users track money for any goal they are working towards; however BeaverAI supports users in every stage of their goal, from planning suggestions, progress tracking and providing key information on the topic.

How we built it

The responsibilities for front-end and back-end development, as well as user experience, were split evenly. The server-side is built using flask, with an SQLite database storing user details and scores. The front end is vanilla HTML/CSS/JS, with flask templating, to reduce complexity.

What's next for MoneyBeaver

MoneyBeaver has big plans for the future! We would like to develop our flagship gaming learning experience to engage and interest our users even further. Our game would be a simulation game where users play as an everyday person and go about day-to-day activities while trying to be financially responsible, and once they finish playing, receive feedback on what they did.
