Was there an attempt made by your project to create a societal impact?
No
Is your art work original (AI art is will not be accepted as original art work)
Some of them are my own personally made artworks for this event! I go out the way to highlight them, mainly the concept art, and the immediate cover/title screen of the game is my own artwork! If I had the chance I'd have loved to fully implement only my personal artworks, but the workload would've been too much
Inspiration
This game was largely inspired in playstyle by Vampire Survivors. In art and direction it took a bit from the niche series OFF. At the same time I also wanted to make the game a little light hearted, so I leaned into the humor of a constantly frowning custodian having to clear through mostly cute monsters! By the time I realized how cute I made them I was too attached to make them "die" in any way other than funny or cute.
What it does
At the moment the game currently allows player movement, tossing of a range weapon, terrain generation and player rotation
How we built it
I built it using Unity, following a guide on tilemaps to allow me to get the top down aspect to match what I had envisioned to the best of my ability
Challenges we ran into
My biggest hurdle has to be terrain generation. I wasn't able to get the terrain to always be 100% seamless like I wanted, and that easily ate up the biggest chunk of time for me, and I still couldn't successfully solve the issue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of getting the terrain generation working overall truth be told. Also for being able to get some level of art assets done and getting the game to run was a bit of a feat, as I had very little experience with unity and had one reoccurring issue with the application itself come up across all my projects!
What we learned
I definitely learned that if I plan to go solo I need to be ready to use premade assets and to allow some bugs to just stay in, no matter how obvious if I intend to finish a game in a set deadline. Also that I shouldn't try rolling solo if I also want to do art in any capacity.
What's next for Whack Those Weeds!
I want to polish the game to at least get the basic enemy into it! Even if I can't successfully implement the wave format, getting it to spawn an enemy the player can defeat and fixing the terrain generation will leave me satisfied
