Inspiration
When selecting a course, it can be difficult to find and know exactly which professor is teaching what course during the selection of courses. With our software, we make it easy to find courses and see which professor is best based on ratings on ratemyprofessor. You can also find the required textbooks for the course.
How we built it
We built the back-end web scraping algorithm using Python and Selenium/Beautiful Soup packages. The front end was built using HTML/CSS.
Challenges we ran into
There were a lot of errors and possible changes of content that can cause our program to crash. Combining both the front end and back end to make functional software was also a struggle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we at least got something to work and can happily post this on devpost as our first Hackathon project!
What we learned
We learned how to style in HTML/CSS and efficiently use Beautiful Soup as well as Selenium to scrap data from the web and run bots.
What's next for Western University Course Lookup
We will be updating our software regularly and plan to have an official domain for it very soon.
