Inspiration
WeMu addresses two significant problems with the healthcare system in British Columbia:
- Responses to crises are reactive as a result of disparate and isolated systems
- The healthcare system is seasonally overloaded, even before the onset of the current covid crisis.
What it does
WeMu is a chatbot and distributed database system for accessible and reliable vaccination information.
How We built it
We are incredibly proud of having created an end-to-end system, connecting our form and chatbot, being served through a Firebase backend, with an instance of a blockchain.
Front-End
- Web3
- React
Back-End
- Firebase
Chatbot
- Kommunicate
- Dialogflow
Blockchain
- Web3
- Truffle
- Solidity

Challenges I ran into
We ran into many challenges throughout this hack, as for three out of the four members, it was our first hackathon. Some specific challenges we overcame:
- Connecting our chatbot to Firebase functions
- Writing and reading data from our Blockchain instance
- QR integration with Firebase backend
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Some specific achievements include:
- Creating an end-to-end system that connects our form and chatbot, being served through a Firebase backend, with an instance of a blockchain
- Doing our first hackathon
- First time using Blockchain frameworks such as Web3 and Truffle
- Deploying a Firebase functions app as the backend for our application
- Reading and writing data from a blockchain from both the front- and back-end
- Creating a working hack that addresses a specific issue in the healthcare system
What I learned
Front-End
- Web3
- React
Back-End
- Firebase Chatbot
- Kommunicate
- Dialogflow
Blockchain
- Web3
- Truffle
- Solidity
What's next for WeMu
- Make WeMu multi-lingual (support Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese)
- Easy to use API for data manipulation and analysis off of the blockchain
- We believe such an architecture has the potential to truly create a big Data environment for health officials to proactively make public health decisions
- The small problem of vaccination information can be expanded to the overarching issue of patient data management in the healthcare industry
- Implement a "Pay what feels fair" Model
