Inspiration
Math is a subject that many students either love or hate. Many students struggle with math at some point. It’s not uncommon to hear students complain that they hate math because “it’s too hard.” I have friend who are seeking my help for her daughter's Math homework. And I believe we've been there too where we're seeking for help or asking for help with Math at some point. Because of that, I wish there is a platform like StackOverflow but dedicated to Math only, where students, teacher, and parents can participate and collaborate with each other to ease the Math problem.
What it does
We Math is an Education Learning platform that targeted students, teachers and parents. It only accepts questions and answers on a wide range of topics in Math subject scope. It serves as a platform for users to ask and answer questions, and, through membership and active participation, to vote questions, answers and comments up or down. It also have sharable link where users can helps other people too. There is a comment section on every answer which will allow the particpant to engange in the discussion. It has the "Hot Topic" section which will be based on the frequency of the discussion such as answers and comments of the question. The up and down vote will have the participant access the quality of the questions, answers and discussions. The related topic will give the similar topic that they search for, which will be helpful in deep learning in Math problem solving.
How we built it
We start in finding the idea on what we want to build and what key component we want in the website by comparing similar wesbite such as StackOverFlow and Brainly, and make it more user friendly, especially for elementary students. With Figma, Tiana worked on the design of Home and Result page while Taufik worked on the Login page. The logo is designed by Taufik using Canva while Tiana worked on the color selection and images file for the Home page and icons. Then we proceed to work on the Visual Code and use React and Bootstrap and connected it to Git.
Challenges we ran into
It's our first time to make a almost full responsive website using React and Bootstrap. Tiana learned React for couple months thus she has prior knowledge that is really helpful with this project. Meanwhile, Taufik learned React for couple days, but he did great job in catching up. It's also first time for trying the bootstrap for Tiana but Taufik help alot in the process. We have problem in working with Git, since it's new for both of us, especially working together as collaborator, to fork, and merge each other project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first Hackathon, and just being here is a big achievement for us. We managed to build a website based on our preference with the goal is to inspire students, teacher, parents and community to share and explore knowledge in a collaborative platform.
What we learned
Both Tiana and Taufik learned something new on the use of Figma, Bootstrap, React, and Figma for web develpment. Also the platform such as DevPost and the information on the sponsor platform in enhancing the IT skills.
What's next for WeMath
We know it's not perfect yet. In the future, we want it to be able to have DataBase where it'll store the questios, answers and discussions from the participant and working on React Hook in order to mapping the DataBase to the website. Furthermore, we need to learn how to have the search Engine Optimization for the website in order to look maping the questions.
