Inspiration
- Welltick was born out of a deep desire to make the world more accessible.
- We were inspired by the daily challenges people with disabilities face in navigating public spaces, communicating with others, accessing health support, or finding emergency help.
- We wanted to build an app that combines assistive technology with community-powered accessibility offering real support for real people. Our vision: an inclusive assistant that’s practical, empathetic, and powered by modern technology.
What it does
Welltick is an accessibility assistant designed to help users with disabilities navigate daily life with greater independence, safety, and connection. So far, Welltick includes:
- Voice-to-text transcription for hearing-impaired users,
- Text-to-speech support for visually impaired users,
- A working location-based finder for accessible restrooms, ramps, and more
- A prototype for a one-tap emergency alert system that shares your location and medical info,
- A UI mockup for a community-powered rating and tips platform,
- A customizable interface concept for users with dexterity or cognitive differences.
How we built it
How We Built It (So Far) Welltick is currently a working prototype built in Replit, focused on core ideas like:
- Voice-to-text and text-to-speech for communication assistance 2 A location-based accessibility finder (conceptual demo using placeholder data)
- A customizable emergency alert system
- A community feedback concept (UI prototype only) We focused on building the user experience, storytelling, and workflow logic while preparing to scale up with additional features as development continues.
Challenges we ran into
- We’re early in development, so integrating advanced features like gesture control, AR navigation, and secure data sharing is still ahead of us.
- Adapting complex ideas to a lightweight prototype in Replit meant balancing simplicity with clarity.
- Accessibility needs vary widely, so designing one interface that feels welcoming to many users was a creative challenge we continue to explore.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built the entire prototype in Replit.
- Took a user-centered approach from the start, prioritizing real needs over just technical features.
- Created a modular architecture to scale future features like telehealth, gesture control, and emotional AI.
- Communicated a clear, impact-driven vision that blends empathy with tech.
What we learned
- Accessibility is not just about compliance, it’s about flexibility. We learned how important it is to offer customizable tools that adapt to individual needs.
- Less can be more. Focusing on a few essential features made it easier to demonstrate real value.
- Designing for disability pushes creativity. We had to rethink navigation, input, and communication flows to ensure they’re intuitive and inclusive.
- We also learned that community-driven features (like peer tips and ratings) can be just as powerful as technology.
What's next for WellTick
We’re just getting started and the vision for Welltick continues to grow. Here’s what’s next:
- Gesture recognition for hands-free navigation (using TensorFlow.js or a device-native solution),
- Indoor AR navigation using AR.js or beacon technology,
- Full community platform build-out with real-time tips, reviews, and location-based feedback,
- Telehealth integration for scheduling, virtual check-ins, and specialist referrals,
- Health monitoring features (e.g. medication reminders, pain tracking, sleep insights),
- Blockchain-backed secure data sharing for medical and emergency information
- More extensive user testing and feedback, especially with people living with disabilities.
