Inspiration

We wanted a way to help our parents stay active and accompanied while we’re away. The line from the reel “You guys are not allowed to die before me” sparks a relatable feeling coming from caring for our parent’s longevity and health.

What it does

In the Home page, the user can choose to do a tailored workout list based on the goal or interest they are aiming for without having the burden of going out of the house or minimal workout equipment. In the Discovery page, it allows users to host their own quest or join other quests hosted by people with similar interests.

How we built it

We used prompt engineering to engineer the app. The frontend was made by React, TypeScript, and CSS, and the backend is powered by SupaBase

Challenges we ran into

Since most of us were not familiar with Git commands, it became a significant issue towards the end when we ran into merge conflicts. We learnt to be careful and more attentive to following the steps of add, commit and push especially when using Git stash.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we turned a shared vision into a cohesive product by bringing together each team member’s ideas and strengths. Beyond coding, we used Figma to design our UX, Canva to create visual assets, data analysis to inform our approach, and video editing to communicate our solution effectively.

Most importantly, we stayed true to the original problem we set out to address while expanding our initial idea into a functional product with features that we believe can create impact. Seeing our individual contributions come together into one complete solution was one of the most rewarding parts of the hackathon.

What we learned

Definitely a great experience for the whole Hackathon process. Some of us less familiar with code really realized that Hackathons are not just pure coding knowledge put to the test, but also ideation and delivering our ideas as one purposeful and impactful app.

What's next for WellQuest

Since social connection and increased fitness go hand in hand, expanding the scope to the rest of Metro Vancouver and real rewards for going to events would help our cause. This can be done through partnering with restaurants or gyms to add vouchers.
