The “Wellness Waves” app was designed to bring valuable educational information to users based on their listening activity on popular streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. It makes use of a machine learning model (Random Forest Classifier - chosen to be the best one given the limited data and testing) to make predictions on Spotify playlist about the average upbeatness, neutrality and slowness of songs. Through an elegant and intuitive interface, it then makes suggestions to users on activities they could undertake in terms of meditation, exercise and nutrition to get the best emotional response out of their current state. The app periodically asks the user to complete a psychology test to gather data about their current state and so that it can track a user’s emotional state over a period of time. Through analytics, it can find insights that relate all aspects of a user's wellness, their activities (meditation, exercise and nutrition) and their listening activity. In our prototype, these suggestions were based on some of the latest research, although the latter is evolving over time. In an upgraded version, the app will pull the latest relevant research automatically and display it to the user (through AI text processing).
