Inspiration

Ever since this COVID-19 pandemic, classes are being conducted via online channels for institutions. Now, that the vaccine has been rolled out across the world and people have been taking it up, the idea of getting back to institutions seems to be the next step in the days ahead. So, how do we ensure the safety of these students/faculty? We have come up with a one stop solution “Wellness First” which will not only cater to the safety of an individual but also will take care of the COVID-19 Vaccine registration process and scheduling a health checkup.

What it does

“Wellness First“ is an application which captures and monitors the health and vaccination details of the students/faculty of an institution. At the same time, it also assesses the individuals 'Return-Safety' status via the creation of a Periodic Health Pass. Our application provides the users with a dashboard that contains reports, health articles and other latest details of the current health situation from an institutional perspective. Along with this, it displays the user’s Personal and Health related details collectively. A user can generate a Periodic Health Pass, which is a questionnaire to assess his/her safe 'Return-Safety' Status. If the ‘Return Safety’ status is GREEN, then the user is good to go, else he/she will have to regenerate the pass. Also, the person will have to renew the health pass every 15days, So, after 15days of SLA the user will be notified automatically. While generating the Periodic Health Pass,if the person wishes to get registered for COVID-19 vaccination, application seamlessly does that with minimal human intervention. Wellness First talks to the COWIN portal (GOI website for COVID-19 vaccination ) and the BOT takes care of the entire registration process. And the user will be notified regarding the same by system generated email communications. The application also facilitates scheduling of health check up from the hospitals nearby. The user can choose the health package, convenient dates and hospitals and book the appointment. For the time being booking is done in PEGA application, but Pega Robotics can be leveraged in order to make the actual booking. Thus, in a nutshell Wellness First is an end-to-end solution taking care of the health of an individual.

How we built it

We have leveraged Pega’s App Studio for building the end to end case life cycle, keeping in mind Pega’s Crushing Business Complexity. We have used Pega’s Theme Cosmos for the look and feel of the application. We have also integrated with Pega Robotics wherein the where in the BOT takes up the data feed from Wellness First Application and hits the COWIN website and completes the vaccine registration process.

Challenges we ran into

1> Initially, we tried to consume the Open APIs shared by COWIN portal for vaccine registration, hospital, and date search for scheduling for the same, but we failed to do so. Later, we found that the authorization keys for the APIs have been shared to only 5 vendors by the government. 2> We dropped the idea of consuming the APIs. Thus, we leveraged Pega Robotics while doing the vaccine registration process in COWIN portal. 3> While doing that, we had initial hiccups of finding a person who is 45+ or 60+ and is not registered in the COWIN portal. Then we found that once a person is already registered but not scheduled or vaccinated, the registration of that person can be deleted and it can be re-registered. 4> We could not carry out the scheduling and vaccination completion process through COWIN portal, cause that would have led to actual scheduling of the vaccine in COWIN portal and the person would have been forced to take the vaccine on the scheduled date. 5> Right now, for scheduling a health checkup, we have not done the actual booking, since we don’t have any APIs . We did not not integrate Pega Robotics as that would have led to actual booking of the health check up. But it is doable .

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1> Unified one stop shop for monitoring the health and vaccination details of an individual . 2> The application seamlessly takes care of the vaccine registration process with minimal human interaction. 3> The faculty/student gets aware of the number of people who are vaccinated in each department before getting back to work . 4> If one feels unwell or wants to go for a periodic heath check up, then he/she can schedule the booking from this application.

What we learned

1> Typically we have integrated applications with any OPEN APIs via REST, SOAP etc . But here we have integrated with Pega Robotics.

What's next for Wellness First

1> As of now, for Vaccine Registration process we have considered only Aadhar# , PAN # & Voter ID #. But all the ID types which Govt. of India is accepting as valid ID proofs can be incorporated in the system 2> If this solution is accepted by any organization or institution, then the application will be able to take care of the actual scheduling and vaccine completion process through COWIN portal . We could have done that now itself, but that would have led to the actual scheduling of the vaccine and the person would have been forced to take the vaccination on that scheduled date. 3> For scheduling health check up, we can integrate with quite a number of leading hospitals though hospital APIs as well as with Pega Robotics where in the BOT will take care of the booking .
