Inspiration
I have always been inspired by the psychology and ideologies surrounding happiness. Happiness is no doubt one of the biggest aspects of our lives, especially during a pandemic. With everyone locked inside, it is crucial that we stay happy and healthy so when the quarantine lifts people can return back to there daily lives. People are at risk of a multitude of physical health problems and mental health problems like depression. Wellness-19 attempts to better the situation we find ourselves in.
What it does
When someone goes on Wellness-19 they will find themselves greeted by our mission statement and by 5 buttons labeled with the 5 different aspects of wellness. The 5 different aspects are social, physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual. Each button will take the user to its respective page which outlines the importance of that specific aspect and a couple of resources one can use exercise that particular part of their wellness.
How I built it
I worked completely alone of Wellness-19. I wrote the entirety of the code on Visual Studio Code using html5 and css3. In total there were 6 different html files and 1 css file.
Challenges I ran into
During the middle of the development process I stumbled upon a 2 hour road block which eventually ended with me having to scrap the entire idea altogether. I was planning on making a feedback form in which the user could enter there name, email, and suggestion about the website. I was then going to read in their data and write it to a file for storage. The issue is I can't read/write files using javascript client side. If I am going to implement this feature in the future I will have to have a server running my website.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I spent a good amount of time trying to pick a color scheme for the website. Although it still doesn't look great, for someone who has no concept of color theory I am quite proud. I choose a more energetic and summery pallet which is intended to boost the user's wellness and is timely for the upcoming season. I am happy how I was able to make a product come to life.
What I learned
Working on Wellness-19 has honed in my skill for html and css. I feel like I have grown so much creating a project of this scale from scratch. I became more efficient, especially having to spend my time wisely as I am the only one working on the project. Although Wellness-19 is still in its beginning phase, I still have linked 15 different websites and wrote entire paragraphs about each one. This allowed me to learn about so many different things in a very short amount of time.
What's next for Wellness-19
The more I worked on Wellness-19 the more excited I got. I have huge plans for the website. Here are the next steps for my project. Hosting it on a public server so I can make a feedback section and so people can start getting use out of it. Second I would like to add a lot more resources for the users. And the third thing would be to add a live chatting system so people can stay connected and healthy together.
