Inspiration

Wellesley College has over a hundred clubs and organizations that are related to a variety of interests and disciplines. Several clubs and organizations frequently promote their events and activities in the beginning of the year, but as the academic year progresses, it can be more difficult to find information viderelated to all of the organizations for students looking to explore club activities or attend fun events later in year

What it does

WellesleyEvents is a visual interactive map dashboard that displays on-campus events and club activities. Organizations and clubs can add their open events and users will be able to see various activities happening soon through clickable markers on the map

How we built it

We used HTML for content, along with layout and structuring, and we used CSS for styling and design. We connected Google Maps API with JavaScript, and also used JavaScript to add markers.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult to figure how to implement the backend for this web application, as we didn't have much experience in that area.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of having been able to successfully implement APIs (specifically Google Maps API) into our web application, as we weren't sure how we were going to create a map centered on Wellesley's campus while having custom location markers

What we learned

I think the biggest lesson we learned is to not strive for perfection, but for progress. Perfection truly can be the enemy of good. We had a lot of different ideas going into this project, but due to time constraints and technical constraints, we weren't able to implement all of them, which is okay. We were at least able to convey the concept while learning new skills, and that's what we're very proud of.

What's next for WellesleyEvents

We're honestly not sure. We think this could be a really good idea to implement, and if this project were to be taken further, we would probably work on backend development and improving the interface's design for better usability and accessibility.
