Inspiration
"Whenever I'm sad, I like to take a walk around Lake Waban. It's fun to think maybe the animals could give me the advice I'm looking for." Mental health is a critical issue often overlooked by being normalized. We thought it would be useful to not just address a decline in one's mental health, but provide a relaxing journey to gain some wellness tips from cute, familiar critters found on Wellesley College's campus.
What it does
Our game gives you a tour around Lake Waban and all of it's landmarks. Along the way, the creatures of the lake give you mental health and wellness tips.
How we built it
Using Unity Game Engine, we were able to put together our original assets and use C# scripts to get them to interact with each other.
Challenges we ran into
There were many creative differences we needed to work out beforehand. We each had a different visual artistic vision and even after completion, we still felt it clashed a little. Additionally, each member being of a different skill level contributed as an additional challenge we experienced.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were not confident in our abilities to complete this project the way we wanted to, but despite that, we're proud we were able to accomplish majority of our goals in this game turning out the way we had hoped. Furthermore, we're all grateful for accomplishing successfully working in a team towards a shared common goal.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively work as a team and basic Unity coding skills (for the teammates who lacked prior experience). We also learned to be time efficient when working against the clock.
What's next for Wellesley Wellness Waban Walk
Perhaps creating this virtual walk in VR or 3D would be a fun next step for us!
