Inspiration

As a first-year Computer Science student, I spend hours sitting at my desk, learning to code, and staring at screens. It is very easy to forget and neglect basic physical health needs like drinking water, resting our eyes or sitting straight in a correct body posture. I wanted to build a simple tool inside the terminal that helps students take care of their bodies while practicing their programming logic.

What it does

Well-check C is a multi-feature terminal assistant designed for student well-being. It includes :

  1. Wellness Advisor: Users select a physical symptom (like eye fatigue or dehydration) and get immediate health remedies.
  2. Wellness Quiz: A text-based interactive quiz that tests the user's knowledge about healthy lifestyle habits.
  3. Coding Challenges: A section that provides students or users with a simple wellness programming prompts (like building water-intake calculator) to challenge their programming skills.

How we built it

I built this project completely from scratch using standard C programming. I used the basic coding elements I have mastered before my first year classes starts, like printf to display the interactive menus, scanf to accept user entries, and simple of condition statements to route the choices.

Challenges we ran into

Since I'm a true beginner and I had only learned upto return 0; practically in my classes, my biggest challenge was learning how to make the program interactive. I prefer learning core C concepts gradually and slowly to build a deep understanding of how things work. My biggest challenge was about carefully stepping forward to implement scanf and if conditions in a live project for the first time, ensuring I understood each part completely as I coded it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I took the programming concepts I'm learning step-by-step and used them to build a real tool that can help other students stay healthy while coding.

What we learned

I learned exactly how scanf listens to what a user types on their keyboard and how if statements let a program make smart decisions.

What's next for Well-check C

In the future, I want to add more health questions to the quiz. I also want to make the code challenge section interactive so students can type in answers and get their results.
