Inspiration
Born and raised in Los Angeles, we were surrounded by hundreds of restaurants, diners, food trucks, etc. With so many choices, eating at a healthy food place was typically not our first choice. As the years went by, we realized that there are so many benefits to eating healthy foods. Those benefits and ways to live a healthy lifestyle can be seen in our project: 'Well'.
What it does
Currently, our project consists of 3 sections: 1) A quiz: which tests your knowledge of living a healthy life. 2) Healthy Food Recommendations: As of right now, it only recommends places in the Los Angeles area. 3) Healthy Eating Info: Webpage that teaches you about what a healthy lifestyle is.
How we built it
To build 'Well,' we mainly used HTML, CSS, JavaScript. The backend of the quiz was programmed using JavaScript while the front end of the Quiz, Healthy Food Recommendations, and Healthy Eating Info were programmed by HTML and CSS. We also used the Google Maps API to implement the location tab of the webpage.
Challenges we ran into
Using CSS to design the entire project, from the font and color of the test to each container. Also finding a way to check to see if the user choice was the correct answer, using JavaScript was difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first HackAThon and we believe that we designed an amazing project.
What we learned
We learned about all the different techniques when using CSS and HTML and also learned how to host a page.
What's next for Well - A Healthy Eating Helper
In the future, we plan on adding more recommendations and more information on what a healthy diet consists of. We also want to expand the locations tab for a user to be able to input their own location and receive a list of recommendations based off of that given location.
