Inspiration
In my junior year of high school, I began the year by summarising what was done in class to help keep track of what was done and how I should revise, but because I noted that down in a notebook I think it was easier for me to forgo it. The entire thing lasted 2 weeks but it would get a little tiresome because I would write the summary after class and more often than not there wasn't enough time between classes for me to write it properly. So I would fill them out at the end of the day. On Fridays, tiredness kicked in and I would leave the filling for Monday. I would sometimes forget what was done in classes and because my notes were scattered, the entire ordeal became tasking and inefficient to say the least. I abandoned it. As I was thinking of ways to create something both productive and enjoyable, I thought a digitised version of my system would do wonders, especially considering how there was less room for excuses and laziness.
What it does
WeLearnt is a social media-esque platform (without the social) wherein students post one line summaries of the lessons they learnt that day. It is built for fun. A way for students to remember, revise, and share their thoughts. There be no numbers and stats involved (no likes and/or comments).
How I built it
What I built during the hackathon is an introductory website for WeLearnt and plans for the Web Application I intend to build immediately. I used HTML and CSS.
Challenges I ran into
Going into the hackathon I believed that I would have a complete product available for use. However, I was deeply mistaken. That process is long and since I was unable to join a team and was working alone, it was definitely not something I would be able to complete in the time period that was available. So instead I made a very basic website instead, whilst working on the web application separately.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I was able to make a plan for the web app (although I will not be able to submit that).
What I learned
I learnt that I underestimate the amount of time decision making takes.
What's next for WeLearnt
A web application coming very soon to help serve students. I am very excited for it because I have big ideas for it!
